Bella Hadid is bald! From a Beetlejuice-esque micro fringe for Haider Ackermann to the Blade Runner-inspired cyborg style at Marc Jacobs, the model has never been afraid to take her hair to the extreme in the name of fashion – and now, she’s got rid of her hair completely.
The look comes courtesy of Marc Jacobs’ Heaven and its AW23 campaign. Taking inspiration from our age of AI, the series features Hadid as a bald and naked cyborg, as well as a version of herself with XXL hair. In other images, she also gets intimate with what appears to be the robot from I, Robot. Ultimately, the campaign explores the ever-decreasing distance between the IRL and URL.
The campaign also celebrates the brand’s signature Kiki boot, a shoe which itself looks straight out of a futuristic, extraterrestrial world. Make-up by Sam Visser is minimal throughout, with the focus on heightened cheekbones and smoky dark eyes, while Evanie Frausto is responsible for Hadid’s hair and, presumably, applying the bald cap to create the Hajime Sorayama-esque look.
Marc Jacobs’ Heaven campaigns are never afraid to be experimental with statement-making beauty – from scene-era raccoon hair to pencil-thin skinny brows. The brand has even expanded into hair colour recently in a collaboration with Bleach London. The first time a luxury fashion brand has ventured into hair colour, the three-shade range took inspiration from 90s grunge and apocalyptic teen aesthetics.
As for Hadid, she serves as the perfect match-up as she continues to lead the futurism in fashion, from modelling a spray paint dress, a gothic blunt fringe, or now going outright bald for Marc Jacobs’s latest Heaven campaign.
