Grimes is suing Elon Musk over a matter regarding their three children.
According to court records, the singer, whose real name is Claire Boucher, filed a “petition to establish parental relationship” on September 29.
Grimes and Musk went public with their relationship in 2018 when they attended the Met Gala as a couple. The pair have intermittently split and reunited over the course of their relationship, with Grimes describing the relationship as “very fluid” in a Vanity Fair interview in March 2022.
“We live in separate houses. We’re best friends. We see each other all the time… We just have our own thing going on, and I don’t expect other people to understand it,” she said.
The couple have three children together: X Æ A-Xii, born in May 2020, Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, born in December 2021 via surrogate, and Tau Techno Mechanicus, whose birth was announced in September 2023. Musk has 10 surviving children in total.
Grimes’ petition comes days after she posted on X about Musk allegedly barring her from seeing her children. In a since-deleted post on X, she wrote: “Tell Shivon to unblock me and tell Elon to let me see my son or plz respond to my lawyer. I have never even been allowed to see a photo of these children until this moment, despite the situation utterly ripping my family apart.”
Shivon Zillis is the Neuralink employee who is the mother of two of Musk’s children, twins Azure and Strider, who were born in November 2021.
She later posted: “I spoke with Shivon at length finally, which was long overdue. This wasn’t her fault, plz don't be angry at her! We respect each other a lot and we're excited to become friends and have the kids grow up together.”
“Women are so often pitted against each other,” she continued. “Speaking with Shivon, it’s very evident she’s an amazing human and we both just want what's best for our kids.”
