Across the course of the last few years, Gucci has taken us to some pretty spectacular destinations for its blowout Cruise shows.
Remember that time Alessandro Michele shut down Hollywood Boulevard and had Phoebe Bridgers, Steve Lacy, and Macaulay Culkin stomp across its famous stars? Or the time the label went stargazing in Puglia, staging a show outside a castle seeped in mythology and magic?
With new(ish) creative director Sabato De Sarno now having two collections under his belt, his attention has turned to his first big destination show, and today it was revealed that it will take place in none other than London. Information beyond the date it will happen (May 13) is non-existent right now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate as to where the designer has in his sights.
Perhaps he’ll shut down Oxford Street, and have the whole thing backdropped by the 9,785 American candy stores that line its glamorous pavements. Maybe he’ll go for the sheer hell that is Westfield on a Saturday afternoon? Or maybe he’ll coincide it with the grand unveiling of the finished Old Street roundabout? (NB: Old Street roundabout will never be finished, it is our Sagrada Familia)
Of course, as Londoners, we joke: whatever De Sarno has up his sleeve is sure to be spectacular. But for now, we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, revisit the AW24 Gucci menswear show above.
