From Pamela Anderson’s stripped-back Proenza Schouler shoot to a new Balenciaga drama series
For the first installment of its Spring 2024 campaign, the underwear label linked up with The Bear and Shameless’ Jeremy Allen White for a sexy underwear shoot in New York.
In the images and short film shot by photographer Mert Alas, White can be seen roaming the city streets and climbing up to a rooftop where he strips down to a pair of Calvin Klein underwear to stretch, stare down the camera, and lounge on a sofa.
“No need for any distractions… Jeremy Allen White is stripped back in Calvin Klein,” the brand captioned the post, playing into social media’s recent obsession with the actor since The Bear’s 2022 release and ahead of February’s The Iron Claw.
Ever since Raf Simons’s 2018 departure from Calvin Klein, the label has reached towards more humorous and horny iterations of its signature 90s underwear campaigns – all built to go viral on social media. For instance, see Pete Davidson’s 2021 Instagram takeover, where the comedian hopped on Instagram live with Machine Gun Kelly to talk about “big dick energy”, rather than posing for the brand’s usual photoshoots.
Of course, this time around, everyone in the comments is ready to lock themselves in their kitchens with the actor, sharing a slew of “yes chef” and “girl dinner!” comments on the posts. “THIS VIDEO IS THREE HOURS LONG,” one user wrote under the 45-second film. If the video is still on loop, this is a safe space (kind of) and we’re sending our thoughts and prayers x
Elsewhere this week, Gucci found itself on the receiving end of a wave of homophobic hate on Instagram after dropping its new hot-blooded gifting campaign – evoking Tom Ford’s sexy 90s shoots for the brand, the UK government launched a new tax scheme targeting Depop girlies and other online sellers deemed the “side hustle tax”, and Dazed Fashion paid homage to Boombox – London’s seminal early 00s clubnight. PRADA ENLISTS ITS NEXT-GEN MUSES
Look at you! Troye Sivan has officially been promoted from Miu Miu SS24 runway model to full-fledged Prada muse for the label’s intimate SS24 portrait campaign by creative director Ferdinando Verderi and photographer Willy Vanderperre. Alongside the pop star-slash-fragrance mogul – who’s lensed wearing a workwear jacket pulled from the label’s SS24 menswear collection – is Triangle of Sadness actor Harris Dickinson and Waves’ star Kelvin Harrison Jr. Read more here.
DIOR GOES TO HONG KONG
Switching up its usual schedule, Dior announced that its Pre-Fall menswear runway show will take place this March in Hong Kong – coinciding with the first international edition of pop culture festival ComplexCon. The French house typically presents the collection in December, however, neither the brand nor artistic director of menswear Kim Jones shared information behind the change. While we wait for the show, click through this editorial which captures the spirit behind Dior Men from Dazed’s Autumn 2023 Issue here.
PAMELA ANDERSON GOES BARE-FACED FOR PROENZA SCHOULER
Another day, another big fashion slay from mother Pam. This time around – after starring in Heaven by Marc Jacobs campaigns, opening up Boss’ SS23 runway, releasing a cute swimwear collab with Frankie’s bikinis, and serving make-up-free looks at the SS24 PFW front row – the model, actor, and activist appeared in minimal make-up and stripped-back looks for Proenza Schouler’s Spring 2024 campaign.
Shot by photographer and Dazed contributor Davit Giorgadze, the images capture Anderson staring down the camera lens in looks including a mesh fishnet maxi dress layered underneath a boxy blazer, to kitten heels slipped over tights and a bright red high-neck knit top with sleeves tied up over her chest (a modern-day homage to her iconic red Baywatch swimsuit, perhaps?). A LOUIS VUITTON POP-UP HITS SELFRIDGES
Back in June, Pharrell Williams made his big debut at Louis Vuitton for PFW, setting the standards for his time at the label’s helm with a “lovers”-themed collection featuring slouchy silhouettes, pixelated “Damoflage” prints, and plenty of fresh references – from New York’s brightly-coloured Louis Vuitton bootlegs to paintings by African-American artist Henry Taylor. Now, in celebration of the offering’s release, the label has opened a brand new pop-up at Selfridges – aptly titled Louis Vuitton Lovers.
Open from now until February 7, the shop brings the creative director’s vision for the brand to life – displaying a curated edit of the debut SS24 offering while blowing up the cubic prints as IRL decor, blasting show music including Pharrell’s track “Joy”, and reimagining Paris’ oldest bridge, the Pont Neuf. Visit Louis Vuitton Lovers now at Selfridges’ The Corner Shop at 400 Oxford Street in London.
THE NEW BALENCIAGA DRAMA SERIES IS ALMOST HERE
Way back when Cristóbal Balenciaga opened up his haute couture atelier in 1917, the fashion crowd was so impressed by his talent and innovation that even Christian Dior, himself, called the designer “the master of us all”. During his career, however, Balenciaga gave no interviews and shunned any publicity, leaving behind little public knowledge about his life and career. However, Disney+ series Cristóbal Balenciaga is now on its way, set to unpack the designer’s life and legacy, beginning with his first haute couture collection in 1937.
Although the series isn’t out until January 19, Disney+ just released its first trailer, providing insight into Balenciaga’s headspace, talent, and fear for his legacy. “It scares me what may happen when I am not around,” Cristóbal, played by Spanish actor Alberto San Juan, states at the end of the trailer.
