If the blocked roads, celebrity sightings or hundreds of journalists wasn’t enough to tell you fashion week was in town, then the grandstanding street style might be your best indication. This AW24 season, style fanatics descended on Paris Fashion Week in their droves, bringing their most conspicuous outfits and an insatiable need to be photographed. That’s not to say that this season’s show-goers weren’t a naturally eclectic bunch, just that fashion week is their chance to dial it up to 100, whack on their wackiest garb and let that inner peacock fly.
And on the streets of Paris, things were as eclectic as they come. Outside the Rick Owens show, Japanese It-girl Akimoto Kazue caught photographers’ attention by waving her baby pink ensemble above her head for a bit, while another attendee turned up in knee high Kiss heels and a white minidress with both arse cheeks on show. Over at Ottolinger, the Clermont twins arrived in matching slashed denim and quirky croissant bags, while Raya Martigny caused a stir outside Vivienne Westwood, legs akimbo while emerging from her car. And – never one to shy away from the flashbulbs – Tommy Cash was up to his usual attention grabbing antics, turning up to the Vetements show as a giant, inflatable rubber ring.
Elsewhere in the city, slogans emerged as a tool to declare some individuality. One woman stopped mid-cigarette roll to show us that she was, in fact, “a fucking ray of sunshine”, while another’s “I’d rather be eating bass” trucker hat had the last ‘b’ scribbled out. Whether they were eating chips off a skateboard, showing off their rifle tramp stamps, or covering themselves in kaleidoscopic yarn, Paris Fashion Week attendees had street style on lock, and we could barely stand to look away. So, the next time you’re in the French capital, stick on a scary clown mask and whack on some plastic toes – who knows? You might just end up in a street style gallery in Dazed.
