Paris Hilton celebrates Britney after her dad steps down as conservator

Last night (August 12), it was reported that Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, has agreed to step down from his role as her conservator. In June, Britney delivered an emotional 24-minute testimony to the court handling her conservatorship case, where she asked for her father and management team’s removal after enduring 13 years of mistreatment. 

According to new legal documents, Jamie Spears “intends to work with the court and his daughter’s new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator”.

Now, long-term friend of Britney’s and fellow Y2K icon, Paris Hilton, has shown her support for the singer online. “I’m so happy to hear this news,” she tweeted. “It’s been so long overdue, but I’m so glad that Britney is on her way to finally being free. Sending so much love!”

One week after Spears’ testimony, the judge signed paperwork which maintained her father’s role as conservator. This appeared as a step backwards for the pop star, who revealed in her testimony that the conservatorship has robbed her of control over her finances, career, personal relationships, and other aspects of her life.

Besides Paris, many celebrities have joined together to show support for the singer. Last month, Miley Cyrus called out “Free Britney!” during a performance of “Party in the USA” in Vegas. “We got to free this bitch,” she said at the end of the song.

Christina Aguilera – Britney’s former Mickey Mouse Clubhouse co-star in the early 90s – posted an open letter to Twitter, showing her own words of support in June. “It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish,” she said. “Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space, her own healing, and her own happiness.”

Other celebs who have spoken up include Courtney Love, Mariah Carey, Halsey, Tinashe, Sarah Jessica Parker, Hayley Williams, and Justin Timberlake – who posted an apology to Spears after The New York Time’s documentary Framing Britney Spears came out. 

Last month, after being granted to the ability to hire her own lawyer, Britney acknowledged the #FreeBritney movement for the first time on Instagram. In a separate post, Spears directly called out her father and sister, stating: “My so-called support system hurt me deeply!!! This conservatorship killed my dreams.

Elsewhere, Hilton recently launched her own Netflix cooking show, titled Cooking With Paris, where she reunited with her former assistant, Kim Kardashian. Paris also announced the 13-episode reality TV show, Paris in Love, which will document the reality TV star planning her wedding with fiancé, Carter Reum. 

Otherwise, Paris is releasing a “searingly honest and deeply personal” memoir, which will provide an intimate glimpse at her personal life and public persona. The book will follow the 2020 This Is Paris documentary on YouTube, which unpacked Hilton’s “heartbreaking trauma” from childhood.
