At this point, Pat McGrath really needs no introduction. One of the greatest make-up artists of all time, who is now conquering the market with her cosmetics brand, Pat has created some truly breathtaking looks over the years. From beautifully dewy bare skin to the most theatrical designs, she can do it all – and has.
Born and raised in Northampton, Pat says it was her Jamaican mum who introduced her to make-up. “Like so many people in the arts, my mother was a huge part of why I chose the profession I have,” she told Dazed Beauty. “She was a “Beauty Addict” long before the term existed.” Since rising to prominence in the early 1990s, Pat has collaborated on major fashion campaigns for designers such as Prada, Louis Vuitton and Calvin Klein, has worked editorially across magazines including Vogue, British Vogue, Vogue Italia and i-D, and created looks for over 3,000 runway shows, including for Alexander McQueen, Prada and Miu Miu, and Givenchy, although Pat is arguably at her most exquisite when collaborating with longtime partner John Galliano with whom she has worked for two decades across Christian Dior, his own eponymous line and Maison Margiela.
Last season saw Pat as busy as always, creating looks for everyone from Prada to Burberry. There were the rosy cheeks at Chanel, the new romantic looks at Louis Vuitton, the glamorous grunge for Donatella at Versace. Then in April, she finally launched her beauty line in the UK with a pop-up store in London’s Selfridges. It became the store’s biggest selling beauty line, breaking records and selling a product every 40 seconds. Is there nothing she can’t do?
Here to celebrate her birthday, we round up some of the greatest Pat McGrath looks.
