When it comes to diversity in fashion, it’s clear there’s still a long way to go. Despite high profile moves (like the epic Rihanna being recently appointed as the first black spokesperson for Dior), recent figures showed that roughly eight out of ten models walking Fashion Week are white. Model Nykhor Paul recently spoke out on Instagram about make-up artists backstage not having the right make-up for darker skin tones, with Jourdan Dunn echoing the same struggles.
Fed up with models of colour not getting the representation they deserve, one anonymous Instagram user is taking matters into their own hands. @moremodelsofcolor shines a well-deserved spotlight on diverse models, because as they put it, “The idea that European features are the epitome of beauty needs to be abolished... All girls, regardless of their ethnic background, have the right to see themselves portrayed in the fashion industry.”

And not just in a tokenistic way, either – “The concept of token models of colour at fashion shows is still very much alive,” they say. “And don’t get me started on campaign figures.” The girls on their page demonstrate that, despite what the runways would have you believe, there are many incredible diverse models out there. @moremodelsofcolor counts new faces Amelia Rami, Nora Attal, Pooja Mor, Amilna Estevão, Alice Metza, Achok Majak and Yuan Bo Chao as their favourites. Lets hope we see more of these girls on the runway very soon.
