The London-based make-up artist gives his best advice on achieving the perfect look for the holiday season
Gucci BeautySince its relaunch in 2019, Gucci Beauty has been bringing the drama from the Italian label’s runway into make-up products. Initially starting with a staple of 58 bold and striking lipsticks, the brand has now expanded into a range of new make-up stables including mascara, eyeliners and playful eyeshadow palettes.
Now for Gucci Beauty’s latest drop, new limited-edition lipsticks as well as its classic make-up and aromatic fragrances have been released just in time for the holiday season. The holiday campaign was shot by Mark Peckmezian and art directed by Christopher Simmonds. Filled with holiday joy, the campaign brings the products to life and features a Gucci lip snow globe – as well as kittens, lots of them!
For almost the past four years, much of Gucci Beauty’s vision has been spearheaded by Australian-born and London-based make-up artist Thomas de Kluyver. As the brand’s global make-up artist, he has been tasked with creating iconic looks on the runway. So when it comes to your burning make-up-related questions, who could be more qualified to answer? Earlier this year he gave his insight on summer lip trends and shared his top six tips for achieving the perfect Gucci lip. And now for the season of holiday parties, below he has shared all his best tips for mastering the perfect holiday party look.
What makes a good holiday party make-up look?
Thomas de Kluyver: When creating the right look, I feel it is individual to the person wearing it. I personally think a party is the perfect opportunity to express yourself with make-up and go for something bold. It’s the season that sparkles, so why not try something fun like a glitter lipstick.
What is the best way to elevate your holiday party make-up look?
Thomas de Kluyver: A really fun way to elevate any look is to add a bold expressive statement. I’m loving the colours in the Gucci Flora Eyeshadow Palette for a party eye. Also, the Liquid Soft Matte lip colours are great for a party too as they are super long-lasting and stay on all night! Snog proof!

Thomas de Kluyver: The new limited edition glitter lipsticks Lunaison are perfect for parties. The bold colours with a soft sparkle will elevate any look.
Do you have any particular favourite looks or references that you think of when you are doing holiday looks?
Thomas de Kluyver: I have a couple of amazing books from Studio 54 that I love referencing when I’m doing a party look. The freedom and expression people put into their make-up looks is really inspiring.
Do you have any tips or inspirations for people who want to create a more alternative holiday make-up look?
Thomas de Kluyver: Be bold and confident with your colour choices, the Gucci Flora Eyeshadow Palette has a brilliant purple that is really versatile not only with different skin tones but also to build up and create beautiful shapes with.
Do you have any tips for making the look last through the night?
Thomas de Kluyver: Taking time to apply your make-up and using thin, buildable layers for your eye shadow and base will help keep it in place all night. Don’t be scared to let things smudge and move throughout the night, a make-up look can improve over the night the more it’s worn in. I personally love a slight crease and smudge, it’s the sign of a good party.
What is your personal favourite part of the holidays?
Thomas de Kluyver: I grew up in Australia so I really enjoy going back home and reconnecting with friends and family. Who doesn’t love a good party!
