The house’s romantic new campaign takes residence in Shakespeare’s Globe, plus more fashion news you missed this week
Vivienne Westwood’s passing continues to leave a gaping hole in the tapestry of fashion, but as the legendary designer wanted, the show must go on – and under the guidance of husband Andreas Kronthaler and the tight-knit community she cultivated across the course of her career the house is in safe hands. Now, just a few weeks after Kronthaler showed his SS24 collection in Paris – a sentimental but forward-looking offering which dove deep into his late wife’s legacy – he’s back with his vision for VW itself.
Realising a long-held dream of Westwood’s, this season’s campaign comes to life at William Shakespeare’s Globe, not far from where the house’s studio lies close to the banks of the Thames, and champions the bard’s own criss-crossing approach to gender. Alongside classic corsetry and twisted tailoring are pieces that draw inspiration from some of the designer’s favourite artists, including romantic paintings by Boucher and abstract motifs from Pablo Picasso. “Thy eternal summer shall not fade,” reads the tagline of the collection, and nor will Westwood’s influence.
In other news, OG Scream queen Neve Campbell scored a surreal Marc Jacobs starring role, while Kylie Jenner teased the launch of her new label Khy, which no one’s sure whether we actually really need, but here we are! For everything else you missed this week, click through the gallery below.
AUTRY LINKS UP WITH NTS
Rising sneaker label Autry landed in London with a bang this week, as it joined forces with NTS Radio to launch its new Reelwind sneaker – an elevated style crafted from luxe suede in a selection of bold, popping colours. The sneaker got its debut during an intimate gig with Denzel Curry which sold out in seconds, but good news is the kicks are still very much available to buy. Head here for more.
TWO SPANISH ICONS CLUB TOGETHER
At New York Fashion Week early last month, subversive, gender-bending label Palomo Spain made its runway return with a typically boundary-pushing collection of twisted tailoring and contemporary updates on historic dress. Finishing things off was a partnership with fellow Spanish brand Bimba Y Lola, which this season provided the leather accessories – like big pocketed weekend bags and chic little fanny packs. The whole thing is now available to shop here.
BALENCIAGA HITS THE SLOPES
‘Tis almost the season when the world’s cold weather fanatics start getting ready to head to the mountains for this year’s ski sessions, and so, with that in mind, Balenciaga has dropped a new capsule collection intended to see them down the slopes in style. With big, bouncy puffers and heavy-duty trousers on the line-up clothes-wise, Demna has also got the equipment sorted, with silver snowboards, poles, and helmets emblazoned with bolshy Balenci monogramming. Head here to kit yourself out.
