Courtney Love is having a wardrobe clearout and you can score her clothes

The Hole icon is spring cleaning her fashion archive and getting rid of a bunch of stuff this weekend

In the unlikely event you ever considered Courtney Love’s approach to getting rid of unwanted clothes, the first thing that probably springs to mind is the time Marc Jacobs sent the Hole musician and her husband Kurt Cobain a bunch of pieces from his infamous SS93 Perry Ellis ‘Grunge’ collection. Disgusted at seeing their scrappy signature look sanitised and proliferated for masses, the duo famously burnt the garments to a crisp. “We were punkers,” she later told WWD in an interview. “We didn’t like that kind of thing.”

With Love coming to regret her decision in the years that followed, she made pals with Jacobs and seemingly learned her lesson, since this weekend, she’s opted for a less dramatic way of getting rid of unwanted clothes. The musician and OG Kinderwhore (more on that here) is joining forces with pre-loved designer boutique Wardrobe Happy Hour to sell off items ranging all the way from prim vintage Chanel two-pieces, to conceptual Rick Owens gowns.

This isn’t the first time Love has spring cleaned her archive. In 2018, she sold off pieces including a corseted black cocktail dress by Vivienne Westwood, a pale pink silk Galliano slip, and some Hedi Slimae-era Saint Laurent looks. “ I love fashion and I love sharing with others, so, while I certainly hold some pieces more dearly than others, I will not grasp tightly to material possessions,” she told us back then. “When it’s time to pass something along, I will do that with pleasure, as I believe that clothing should be worn or displayed in a way that allows its beauty to be seen,” she added.

Best of all, unlike recent archive sales from the likes of Chloë Sevigny and Kim Gordon, you don’t even have to commit to waiting in a lengthy queue to get your hands on bits. The sale kicks off at 5.00PM (GMT) on Saturday, March 30 online. Follow Wardrobe Happy Hour for more.
